Sundae School is a craft cannabis brand and smokewear label born in Seoul, based in California. Sundae.Flowers are grown energy-efficiently, without harmful chemicals by social equity farm partners.

Challenge

Starting out as a contemporary Korean-inspired streetwear brand, Sundae School launched onto the fashion scene in 2017. Sundae School’s unique aesthetic illustrates narratives that contextualize and de-stigmatize cannabis while exploring identity through design. A sartorial tribute to cannabis culture, the fashion debut spurred a cult following of dedicated fans. It wasn’t until 2018, after a meeting with KacePack at New York Fashion Week, that the brand considered launching its first cannabis line in California. Prior to this venture, Sundae School had no expertise in the cannabis industry, besides celebrating cannabis culture through design and as self-confessed midnight tokers. 

Sundae School sought a creative cannabis packaging solution that could translate their unapologetically Korean-American brand aesthetic into an appealing cannabis product and comply with stringent state packaging regulations. 

 

Solution

The first product line of 0.3gram pre-rolls, called Bullets, launched in 2019. Encased in a 100% recyclable tin, embossed with the Sundae School logos and wrapped in a printed paper sleeve, Sundae School’s inaugural line of cannabis would be the launchpad for a slew of cannabis products to follow.

Sundae School’s edibles’ packaging is inspired by childhood memories from Asian candies. The tin sleeve’s playful design was intended to represent the mouthwatering experience by using approachable patterns and dynamic color palettes. The fun, polka dot sleeve wraps neatly around embossed Sundae School tins, produced with 100% recyclable tin. A high-end, functional and creative result that honors the Sundae School brand aesthetic.
